We Were Here

We Were Here is a powerful original production by poet and playwright Clyde A. Wray that shines a light on Black historical figures whose stories helped shape our Province. Through a series of moving monologues, the play celebrates lives often overlooked.

The production brings to life eight remarkable individuals: sprint champion and soldier Eldridge Eatman, educator and abolitionist Josiah Henson, entrepreneur Cornelius Sparrow, civil rights activist Dr. Constance Timberlake, acclaimed artist Edward Mitchell Bannister, pioneering lawyer Abraham Beverley Walker, business leader Georgina Whetsel, and broadcaster and activist Lena O’Ree. Together, their stories form an inspiring portrait of Black history in our region and the lasting impact of those who helped shape it.
