TAKING ON WATER
A Powerful Look at Life on a Changing Coastline with renowned Canadian theatre-maker Robert Chafe
June 4-5, 2026
SERIES: Presentation
Taking on Water is a spellbinding blend of theatre, music, and movement that brings the stories of coastal Newfoundland and Labrador to life. Award-winning actor and writer Robert Chafe interviewed residents living and working along a rapidly changing ocean. From their voices, he crafted vivid, magic-realist tales of communities swallowed by storms, villages made of blue glass, and places that vanished. These stories unfold onstage through the unforgettable performances of Robert Chafe, dancer and storyteller Louise Moyes, and the acclaimed Duo Concertante (Nancy Dahn, violin; Timothy Steeves, piano), with an evocative original score by composer Randolph Peters. Sometimes funny, always deeply moving, Taking on Water is an imaginative journey into the environmental pressures—and resilient spirit—shaping coastal life today. Don’t miss this powerful and timely theatrical experience.
