The Saint John 225 Master-Class Series

 

July 2-4 – Playwriting with Jeffrey Hatcher

Jeffrey Hatcher, whose work includes the script adaptations of Mitch Albom’s memoir Tuesdays With Morrie and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, will conduct a script development master class with local playwrights.

 

August 20-22 – Movement with Sherry Lee Hunter

Sherry Lee Hunter is an actor, writer and teacher who founded the Jest in Time Theatre, a nationally recognized Physical Theatre ensemble, which toured nationally and internationally.  This class will provide an introduction to the art of physical theatre and creating character.

 

September 24-26 – Voice with David Smukler

David Smukler has coached voice and directed with major theatres and drama schools worldwide. As Director of Training for the National Voice Intensive, David has worked with performers, directors & broadcasters in theatre, opera, film and television.  This class will focus on voice and speech for theatre.

 

October 8-10 – Dance with Adam Cates

Adam’s choreography experience includes developing original musicals as well as staging classical and contemporary works. He has been involved with several off-broadway musicals, television, special events as well as teaching.  This class will focus on technical skill, placement and posture while learning a series of different combinations in various musical theatre styles.

 

November 5-7 – Acting with Albert Schultz

Albert Schultz is a Canadian actor, director and the founding artistic director of Toronto's celebrated Soulpepper Theatre Company.  Albert’s acting credits include: Street Legal, Side Effects and most recently the lead in CTV’s made for TV film Shades of Black.

 

December  3-5 - Comedy Improv with Jill Bernard

Jill Bernard has been performing with Comedy Sportz -Twin Cities since 1993, and is also a founding member of HUGE Theatre. Her one-woman improv piece, Drum Machine, has been featured throughout the US and Canada. She has taught and performed improv in Norway, Canada, and over thirty States.  Her session will focus on character building (Vapapo Character Toolkit), speeding up your improvisation (The Fireball Theory) and creating honesty & vulnerability in your work (Truth & Beauty).

 

All Master-Classes will be held at the Saint John Theatre Company Building

 Interested participants must submit a one-page letter indicating relevant background.

 Successful applicants will be granted admission to the Master-Class at no charge courtesy of our sponsors at the Saint John 225 Festival Organizing Committee.
