The Importance of Being Earnest
Written by Oscar Wilde & Directed by Robert Moore
Imperial Theatre, November 25-27, 2010
What happens when two pretty girls both fall in love with men they believe to be called Ernest? Will they learn that a rose by any other name still smells as sweet? A well-manicured Victorian comedy of handbags, button-holes and flying coat-tails, Earnest is the best-loved comedy of all time. “A trivial comedy for serious people.”
Black Comedy
Written by Peter Shaffer & Directed by Scott Thomas
Imperial Theatre, March 17-19, 2011
The fun starts when the lights go out! A struggling artist "borrows" furniture from a rich neighbour to impress his fiancée’s father. But just as the last antique is set in place, a fuse blows and the lights go out. Imagine an already comic situation made more chaotic as the characters fumble about in the dark – in full view of the audience! A litany of unexpected guests and mistaken identities throw the evening into chaos - but the darkness also sheds hilarious light on everyone's true character. "Screamingly funny…a racy comedy of errors" -The Stanford Daily
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Written by Tennessee Williams & Directed by Stephen Tobias
Imperial Theatre, May 19-21, 2011
On a Southern plantation a family celebrates the birthday of their patriarch. A number of evils poison the gaiety: greed, sins of the past and desperate, clawing hopes for the future spar with one another as the knowledge that Big Daddy is dying slowly makes the rounds. In the midst of this, Maggie ‘the Cat’ struggles desperately to re-kindle the flames of passion with her disillusioned husband. “What is the victory of a cat on a hot tin roof? — I wish I knew . . . Just staying on it, I guess, as long as she can.”
Subscription prices: Adult - $70 for all 3 Main Stage productions, Senior - $65, Student - $52 and Sat Matinee - $60.
